Individual Counseling
  Nowadays, mental problems have become increasingly complex among college students, they need timely help to cope with their problems in the following areas: learning difficulties, career exploration, self-quest, self-growth, intimacy relationship, family problems, interpersonal relationship, etc.

In view of this express demand, this office has employed a variety of counseling specialists to help students deal with their psychological problems, and adjust themselves more easily to college life.
Mental Health Consultation Clinic
  This office has employed doctors specialized in neurology and psychiatry to set up a mental health clinic to help students with a paranoia tendency.

General treatment includes psychology scan, medication, an after-treatment tracking of the troubled student's state of mind.

(Note: this service is only available to students having been recommended by their own counselors.)
Psychological Test Service
  1. Individual Test
The counseling staff of this office will interview students and help them take any of the following tests suitable to their needs:
(1) Personality test
(2) Career interest test
(3) Interpersonal behavior test

After a detailed analysis of the test results, students able understand better their own identity, thus helping them map out their future career goals.

2. Campus-wide Group Test
Every academic year, in terms of students' actual needs, this office will conduct a proper psychological test overseen by professional counselors. The test will be held on scheduled time, but optional by nature. The scores of the test are totaled instantly and counseling advice is given on the scene.

3. Class Psychological Test
As may be suggested by proctors, this office will evaluate the situation with the proctor and administer a suitable psychological test to students in a class. It will be supervised by professional counselors. The results of the test will be evaluated and passed onto students for their reference.
Group Counseling and Workshop
  This office will conduct a Psychology Workshop every semester. It is scheduled at different time slot with a variety of theme topics:
1. Intimacy relationship
2. Career Planning, Interpersonal Relationship
3. Originality Instigation
4. Communication Skills
5. Separation Adjustment
6. Artistic Articulation and Self-Exploration
7. Psychodrama, etc..

Because it has been overseen by experienced counselors and has exercised strict quality control, many students consider it one of the most welcomed programs in Tamkang.
Campus-wide Mental Health Maintenance
  Together with a "Counseling Volunteer Task Force", Various theme-topics include Self-Quest, Interpersonal Relationship, Interpersonal Communication, Intimacy Relationship, Career Planning, Stress Adjustment, Artistic Articulation and Self-Growth.

Not only has this office held scheduled large-size classes and group counseling, but also has staged many heart-warming social activities. Professional colorful-these are the comments made by students who have attended the Psycho-Camp.
Peer Counseling in Community Junior High School "Hand in Hand" Project
  Objective:
1. To help public junior high schools within the community promote group counseling work among fellow schools.
2. To help teenagers on the right paths of cultivating selfhood, evocative thinking and acquire a wholesome and positive attitude toward life.
3. To induce college students onto the right paths of feeding back the society and to inject them with a spirit of brotherly love.

The junior high schools under this cooperation project are:
Tamshui junior high school,
Pa Li junior high school.

The positive results have been very well received by M.O.E.
Mental Health Week Sponsored by M.O.E.
  To coordinate students' actual needs, a theme topic has been chosen each academic year to hold a series of relevant programs: so far, we have promoted following programs:
1. Campus-wise speeches
2. Workshops
3. Inter-collegiate theme camps
4. Movie-showings
5. Issuing pamphlets and cards
6. BBS and On-line featured articles
7. Debate contests
8. Essay contests
9. Poster exhibits, etc..

These programs are aimed at helping students know more about relevant psychology information and instigating them to unfurl their potential to identify problems so as to resolve them.

Theme topics promoted in the past include:

Mental Health Publicity
  This office, with a view to provid mental health data and promoting M.H. education of self-hood cultivation, has so far published deluxe posters and offered a variety of relevant M.H. materials to the student public.

The theme topics have also been updated to accommodate the actual needs and practical problems facing the so-called "E Generation" (Super-Modern Human Being). The media in support of this program include:

Mental Health Publications Library
  In Room B409, Business Bldg., this office has a collection of M.H. books, journals and audio cassettes for faculty and students to peruse. The theme topics include stress management, intimacy relationship, interpersonal relationship & communication skills etc.

Reading materials are laid out on shelves for students' reading pleasure. Students are welcome to use this facility.
Mental Health Electronics Consultation System
  To coordinate "The Third Wave" project in Tamkang, so as to improve our service quality, this office has undertaken the development project of Electronics Appointment System for Individual Counseling. This Project is aimed at maximizing the coordination of the specialty of Counselors-at-Residence and the mentally troubled students who came forward to seek help.

Some of the steps under consideration are:

1. Appointment of individual counseling
2. Computerization of the record of interviews
3. Computerized object of work: inquiries of personal interviews
4. Establishment of individual case data base
5. Statistics and categorization of individual cases
6. Statistics and tracking of a case status handled by individual counselors.
7. Establishment of M.H. Tests database.
8. Secret Code functions
9. Research and analysis on the compatibility between the individual case and the expertise of the counselors in question
10. The tracking record of each individual case
Volunteer Training
  1. Objective:
The main objective of volunteer training is aimed at promoting mental health publicity and cultivating the altruistic service concept among college students.
Our motto is : Training, Service and Honor.

2. Training courses:
Courses offered include Graphics Design, Cyberspace Design, Psychology Test, Activity Planning.
Our purpose is to acquire practical experience through work.

3. Un-remunerative Service:
To assist this office in doing various mental-health related works including monitoring reading room, loan-desk, editing mental-health pamphlet, implementing group mental test, enforcing various mental health special task programs, etc.
All works are free of remuneration.

4. Honorable Mention:
This office apply a Citation of Meritorious Performance for volunteer students with the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the end of each semester. This act of self-less spirit will appear on the student's record.

5. Implementation of "Inter-collegiate Volunteer Students'Live-in Camp:
Our university has co-hosted the Vacation Camp for Volunteer Students with numerous universities including National Political University, Soochow University, Sanskrit (Hwa Fang)University, Maritime University.
This social act was meaningful in that not just there was a free-fall of psychology hygiene ideas, but also a reinforcement of comradeship among peer brothers and sisters.
Gender Equalization Education
  1. To install a cyberspace for Sex Equalization data base
(1) Objective:
To accommodate the social as well as sex role change; to establish correct bilateral interactive concept between both sexes, and to nurture an environment without discrimination and to realize the ultimate goal of gender equalization.

(2) Cyberspace Content:
Biology between both sexes; Social change upon sexual relationship; Psychological Study on Both Sexes; Legal Problems on Both Sexes; Forecast of Gender Study in the Future, Data Source on-and-off Campus.

2. Promotional Activities Concerning Equalization Education:
Featured speeches by well-known scholars and specialists, posters show, book fair, pamphlets on featured topic themes, cards, psychology workshop, state-of the-art multiple-media documents exhibit, essay contest, etc.
Committee for Gender Equalization Education
  1. Objective:
To promote the concept of gender equalization, to realize gender equalization education, to establish an environment without sexual discrimination so that the ultimate goal of fair treatment of the feminine gender may be carried out without fail.

2. There are thirteen to seventeen members on the Committee.
The President will appoint faculty/staff with non-discriminatory consciousness to serve in the Committee, with female members no fewer than the single majority.

3. Execution Status:
A Committee meeting is to be held once in each semester to review promotion, publicity and training with respect to Sex Equalization Education program.
Legal Aspects of Sexsual Abuse
  1. Objective:
To protect students' corporeal safety, to be exempt from fear and menace of sexual violence, to protect students' rights to pursue studies in peace, and to promote equality and harmony between male/female students so as to enhance equilibrium among students.


2. Appeal Procedure:
A victim student may file his/her complaint at our designated number (02)2623-2424. His/her complaint will be referred to Sex Equalization Committee which in turn establish a Task Force: investigation procedure will remain strictly confidential. Punitive action may be taken according to T.K.U.'s Disciplinary Regulations or Code against the person inflicting harm and injury.
Counseling Advisor's Seminar
  To uphold and enhance counseling advisory level, and to protect rights of the students, this office has hosted many seminars for full-time and part-time counselors to attend.
Mental Health Counseling for Aboriginal Students
  As aboriginal students came to study away from their familiar environment, it has become more urgent for them to seek counseling in issues like adaptation in the campus life and career planning.

In recent years, this office has acquired a number of books on aboriginal culture as well as the current status of the aboriginal people.
Students of aboriginal origins are welcome to charge out these books.

Also, this office has initiated services including workshop, summer camp, and individual counseling for aboriginal students.
Campus-wide "Psychological Research"
  1. Research on Investigation of College Students' Sexuality Views
To understand college students' attitude toward sexuality, and to use it as basis for supplementary reference of Gender Equalization Education.

2. Research on Investigation of Internet Generation's Sexual Interaction
To understand the new structure of sexual relationship and the interactive problems between sexes as a result of rapidly developing on-line information in a modern campus.
Seminar to Engender Counseling Capacity for Proctors and Counselors at Tamkang
  Each academic year, in view of survey statistics conducted on proctors about the problems they meet in counseling, this office has conducted numerous seminars at different time-slot. Many experienced specialists from other universities are invited to give a speech or join a symposium to share our expertise. The result is stunning.
Professional Seminar for Counseling Center's Supervisors at Colleges and Universities in Northern Region
  Each school year, for the purpose of exchanging practical experience, enhancing counselors professional knowledge and skills, and targeting the future trend of paranoia among college students, three seminars have been staged by this office, and they were all under the auspices of M.O.E.(Ministry of Education). The names of the seminars are:

1. "Intercollegiate Seminar for Review of Mini-Counseling Experience";
2. "Seminar for College Supervisors at Counseling Centers in Northern Region (of Taiwan)"; and
3. "Seminar for Professional Counselor at Colleges and Universities in the Northern Region".
